The Department’s mission is to promote and protect Ireland’s heritage and culture, to advance the use of the Irish language, to support the sustainable development of the islands and to develop cultural tourism. The Department published a Statement of Strategy in March 2015 setting out the actions that it will take over the coming period to enrich the quality of life in Ireland through the protection and promotion of our rich culture, arts, heritage and language. The Statement of Strategy may be viewed here.

In common with all Departments, the Department of Arts, Heritage Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has developed an Integrated Reform and Delivery Plan. This presents a high–level summary of the Department’s key reform actions and also gives an overview of the Department’s Public Service (Haddington Road) Agreement Action Plan.
